Comic book movie adaptations Part 1 ( The Fall )

Every time I hear a comic book character or characters are going to be adapted to the big screen i get excited and scared.
Tim Burtons Batman starring michael Keaton as Batman And Jack Nicholson as the Joker set the bar to what was supposed to be a defining moment in Comic Book characters being adapted to the big screen. I also give a nod to Richard Donner and Christopher Reeve for setting the pace. Unfortunately things took a turn for the worse. Hollywood idiots believed there was more money to be made by taking these iconic characters and making them more campy, changing there costumes, playing with there histories etc. Also the casting choices were terrible. George Clooney as Batman? Nipples on the bat suit? Batgirl being Alfred's Niece instead of Commissioner Gordon's Daughter? All these changes were terrible and unnecessary. After that movie I was turned away from movie adaptations. I decide to stick to my comic books and just dream of an iron man movie or green lantern movie. But to be honest I would quickly Put those thoughts to rest because I would rather never see movies like these produced if they were to turn out to be trash. Movies that portrayed these characters in such a light were an insult to the fans and the creators of said characters. Believe it or not These characters are our modern day folk lore. These are the legends and myths of our parents and of our kids generations. I thought all was lost.............

THE DARK KNIGHT Part 2 (review)

Well im late I promised a review and i didn't deliver. And im not going to. By now all who wanted to see it have seen it, and have talked this movie to death. I will say though I loved it enjoyed it and cant wait till it re-releases in january on the big screen to watch it again. It was a great ending to a summer of great superhero movies.

Sept 11th 2001

Would like to take a moment to remember the People Lost in the tragedy that was 9-11.
Not much to say, I didn't lose anyone that I knew personally. But I know what it is to lose a loved one.
And to lose someone in such a devastating way is always tragic. My heart goes out to anyone who has lost someone they care for whether it was on 9-11 or another time.

Hello,

What a couple of months this has been. So many words could describe it, nerve wrecking, exhausting, emotional, etc.
Im just glad that aug is over. I have been gone for a while. But i hope to be back. This blog is important to me, its a chance to express my feelings and write stuff about my experiences and opinions in life. I hope I can continue to write and enjoy writing without worrying about political incorrectness, or hurting anyones feelings. I have started off light but I intend to get more opinionated and express what lingers in the dark corners of my mind. Although i know some might be offended by my words and opinions I implore you to understand where I'm coming from. Anything i say I express because those are my thought feelings and experiences. I will try and respect others and there opinions but ultimately this is my open journal to the world and I would love to be true to myself above all else. I was gone for a minute, But Im back Hopefully for the long run. Instead of rushing thru the reasons I was m.i.a in this blog Ill write separate Blogs discussing those matters.

Thank you

Mario Andres Arroyave

THE DARK KNIGHT Part 1 ( The experience)

Earlier this morning I saw one of the most anticipated movies of the summer if not the year. As we arrived to the movie theater and I looked at the immense line that spread out around the block I knew I was in for a treat. It was just a feeling, these many fans showing up by no means were they proof that this movie was going to be great, No, I've viewed Midnight screenings before and seen huge lines line up and have still been disappointed. Spiderman 3 and Transformers come to mind. And I don't want to begin on the travesty that was fantastic 4 rise of the silver surfer. No after watching a classic movie like Iron Man and an above average Hulk Movie, I knew it was DC's and Warner Bros turn to add to an already memorable summer of movies. I just knew it in my gut that they wouldn't disappoint and boy was I right. This movie thus far has been the best in my opinion of the Comic Book movies to this day. The character of Batman is a huge part of DC lore. When people think of DC comics Batman definitely has to come to mind along with Superman of course. Superman was always this powerful being who we always fantasized of having his power, but knew deep down that it was impossible. But Batman is an ordinary human being just highly trained and with a plethora of gadgets. All that can or has been invented. This has always lead me to be a big fan of The Batman. Also having some of the best rogues gallery In all of comics and supporting cast doesn't hurt. after being seated we began discussing past movies and other geek filled topics. Our conversation ranged from Iron man to thunder-cats to How bad of an actress Jessica Alba is. We had to promise the people in front of Us that we were loud and obnoxious but only while the lights were still on. As soon as the previews began we all turned down the volume to zero. After some non important previews, they showed The Spirit Preview and the Watchmen Preview. Aside from the fact that the Spirit has Eva Mendez and Scarlett Johansson this movie should not disappoint. ANd for all Alan Moore fans out there I cannot wait For the watchmen movie.... Great previews for a great movie.

4th of July Weekend Part 3

The last memorable part of the weekend was saturday at night. Joel one of the original 5 (Rodrigo, Steven, Esteban, Joel and Myself) was living in NY for the last year. After He and his family moved to Florida In the spring/summer of 2000, I would spend a good portion of my summer vacation at his house. We have always had an on and off (tumultuous) relationship but nevertheless he is my brother. After a year spent in NY he has decided to move back to florida. For how long? who knows, that is up to him. Anyways we made plans to meet up on saturday. He would be leaving tuesday and I knew it would be along time till i saw him again so we made plans and we met up in the west village. I was accompanied by Gee and he was accompanied by his girl and her brother and friends... We had some awesome pizza. (Thanks Brian) We enjoyed some slamming ice cream(sundaes and cones located at 10th street between 3rd and 4th ave )and some drinks(Henny and coke). Played some Mario Kart and overall had a good time. A nice ending to a busy weekend. And a nice goodbye to an old friend.

4th of July Weekend Part 2

The second part of the weekend consisted of my meeting with my sister to buy her a crib for my soon to be niece Melanie. It started with a late breakfast at La Fonda on Steinway. The food was off the hook but the service was terrible. It took forever to get my hot sauce and when I almost choked on a piece of arepa no one was around to get me water it was terrible. Anyways afterwards I went and met up with my sis across the street. We went to la casa de bebe. I bought my niece her first bed. I cant wait to meet her. I hope to be the best uncle I can be. We will see...
